UTILITY
UTILITY is a continuous performance by Emissary Quartet (four flutes) and Synchronous (dancers). Our April 2024 performances took place throughout three rooms in the Blue Gallery in New York City.

THE EVENING AT A GLANCE
Arrive at The Blue Building, NYC
We invite you to experience the beautiful space of the Blue Gallery, an art gallery housed in a historic 19th-century pre-industrial building in the Turtle Bay area of Midtown East Manhattan. The Blue Building serves as the perfect setting for a visual and aural program of pieces which examine the role utility plays in our lives. Enjoy light refreshments throughout your evening and the opportunity to mingle with other guests throughout the performances.

Finally, arrive in the largest space where you will hear the piece that inspired it all: Utility Spaces by Owen Eddy, a multi-movement work which explores the role of mundane objects and interactions in our daily lives.
Explore the Space Alongside Us
The three rooms of the Blue Building will be fully utilized during the flow of the evening. Solo flute music will set the stage and attendees are invited to follow the performers as they move between spaces and lead you to the next scene, involving a variety of instrumentalist and dancer combinations.
