An immersive performance of contemporary dance and music...

This November, experience HARBOR, a unique collaboration between Emissary Quartet (four flutists) and Synchronous (five dancers). Presented at Ki Smith Gallery (Lower East Side) on November 19, 2025 and The Blue Building (Midtown East) on November 21, 2025, HARBOR invites audiences into an intimate, moving exploration of space, safety, and human connection.

HARBOR builds off of a previous collaboration between EQ and Synchronous, UTILITY, which premiered in April 2024. This first collaboration explored the concept that, although individuals are generally under the scrutiny of daily perception, small, fleeting interactions are free from the pressures of observation and their function is to unite. HARBOR further builds on how these moments can create safety and a sense of protection between the individuals involved. We aim to question and further understand the relationship between physical space, people, and emotional safety.
Audience members are free to move through the venue, choosing their vantage point as flutists and dancers weave together shifting vignettes of sound and movement. Each moment is designed to immerse you, bringing you face-to-face with artistry that blurs the boundaries between performer and observer.

The Program
The program features works by living composers including Nicole Chamberlain, Valerie Coleman, Chen Yi, Eve Beglarian, Herman Beeftink, and Owen Eddy, performed by flutists Kari Boyer, Allison Asthana, Sarah Shin, and Chelsea Tanner. Choreography is created and performed by Stephanie Shin, Emily Aslin, Celinna Haber, Maya Lam, and Rachel Ha-Eun Lee of Synchronous.
Partnering with the Ki Smith Gallery and The Blue Building, we are developing these performances uniquely for each space. With intimate venues and limited capacity, the music repertory, choreography, and staging will magnify and analyze the safe relationships that are built in unexpected spaces.

HARBOR offers a unique chance to experience a multidisciplinary performance where contemporary music and dance converge to create a living, breathing work of art.
