National Flute Association 2016 Convention
San Diego, CA | August 11-14, 2016
Join Emissary Quartet for two flute quartet works of the twenty-first century. Takashi Yoshimatsu's "Twitter Birds Blog" contemplates the intersection of nature and technology. In "Levada," Heike Beckmann uses percussive effects to turn the flute quartet into a drumset. EQ’s involvement in the NFA convention is generously supported by the Friends of Flutes Foundation. one wish, your honey lips: Fromm Commission Premiere
November 2016 | New York City, NY
Emissary Quartet explores the music of their generation within the unique soundscape of four flutes. Shifting easily from works inspired by drumsets and cathedrals to 21st-century counterpoint, EQ shares a wealth of contemporary music for flute quartet. The program will feature the world premiere of one wish, your honey lips by Annika Socolofsky. This new work takes inspiration from the intricate and subtle space between notes in traditional Irish sean-nós singing. Both the commission of Annika Socolofsky’s work and EQ’s this performance have been made possible through a grant from the Fromm Music Foundation at Harvard University.
Call for Scores
2016-2017 Season | International
In November 2016, EQ will launch a call for scores for new works for flute quartet. Through this project, EQ aims to establish a mutually beneficial partnership between composers and flutists that will extend beyond EQ to the flute community as a whole. We believe that other flute quartets will be eager to play the music we discover, that composers will be inspired to write for flute quartet given its wide reach among flutists and unique color palette, and that we will draw out other composers who are interested in collaborating on future projects and commissions.
